This lesson builds on the previous lesson by introducing students to the concept that plotting these points might be the precursor to constructing a straight line. Students plot rational number points (in addition to integer points) and develop more of a sense that the points that satisfy the linear equations will form a straight line.

In this lesson, we introduce students to the first of several different forms of linear equations...the standard form: Ax+By=C. We used equations written in this form to plot points on a coordinate plane.
This lesson demonstrated the relationships between stories/context, equations, tables, and graphs. Eventually, given one of these elements students should be able to generate the others on their own.
This lesson examined the differences between constant speed and average speed. In many respects, the math content was a review of content students had learned last year, but the concepts were a bit more sophisticated in terms of the discussions around the differences and similarities between constant and average speed.
